Today was the last day of Paediatrics Dentistry. I have mentally prepared myself for what I will face in just a few hours the night before. I was supposed to complete my last two practical which left me with pulpectomy and stainless steel crown. I was nervous but here's a recap of what happened today.
Oh, if the jargon's too much for you to brain, you may skip this part.

I enter the clinical skills lab at 7.45 a.m. We only have until 11.30 a.m. Better start unloading the tools. I went straight to my station and brought out everything that I will need. Dappen glass, cement carrier and plugger, tweezer and so on. Gloves, check. Mask, check. I took out the tooth that I have mounted on a block of wax.
This is it. I'm going to do this. I'm going to make it.
I accessed the cavity using a diamond straight fissure bur. Making sure I removed all carious part, I showed it to The Doctor. She approved and I went to get my x-ray of the mounted tooth to show her my estimated working length. She corrected the working length for my distal root canal and I start to put in my K-files in the mesial and distal root canal. Went to the x-ray room, developed my x-ray and I speedwalked back to the lab. I showed it to The Doctor again and she approved of my corrected working length. Then I start to extirpate the pulp. #15, then irrigate with saline, dry with paper point, #20, #25, #30.
It's 10 a.m.
I maintained my focus. My colleagues start to move back and forth the lab like flies. It was chaotic. 1 hour and 30 minutes to go and I haven't even started restoring.
I can do this. I can do this.
I filled the root canals with Vitapex. Done. I rushed to the x-ray room again which was quite far from the lab. Did the x-ray and when I saw the developed film I went crazy. The root filling on the distal root canal did not reach the working length.
I speedwalked, but even faster. The Doctor told me to reprepare the root canal AGAIN.
#15, #20, #25, #30, but I did it rather violently. I can't afford to waste any more time. All the while I'm filling the Vitapex again I prayed please please let this be the last time.
Went to the x-ray room again and this time I ran back with the developed film to the lab.
It's 11.00 a.m.
The Doctor told me to proceed and I put my base(Zinc Oxide Eugenol) and proceeded to restoring the tooth with GIC.
The Doctor approved.
It's 11.15 a.m. Oh God, will I make it???
I burred the crown to prepare the tooth for stainless steel crown. Took the crown from the nurse and it fits nicely. Filled the crown with GIC luting cement and I placed it over the tooth.
11.30 a.m.
I made it. I made it in time!
After The Doctor signed my logbook, I couldn't help but feel proud of myself as I saw her flip through my log book, making sure I have completed all practicals.
I did it. I survived!

In a nutshell, what happened is that I managed to finish my requirement for Paediatrics Dentistry. To tell you the truth, we are way ahead from other groups because we are supposed to finish in December but I manage to get THE STRICTEST DOCTOR to supervise us and yeah, she figuratively crack whipped us at every session. For the first time, I'll be able to look forward to Thursday being stress-free. Hurray!
We have to finish everything by today because she won't be here in December and she didn't want anyone else to supervise us so yeah, that's why I was really hoping to finish it by today.
That's a lot of dental jargon yeah I know.
Anyway, today also marks 5 years after I proclaimed the syahadah. Alhamdulillah. *throws confetti*
So yeah, everything pretty went well today.
And oh, I got another present for my real birthday. A crochet tumbler carrier for my Tupperware tumbler! This year's birthday is by far the most interesting birthday ever because I got way more presents than I ever did during the past 22 years.
23. And that reminds me of the office staff who hollered at me even before I enter the office as he saw me.
"KO NI BILA NAK BERANAK?" (When are you going to have a baby?)
Gosh, I feel so embarrassed because everyone in the office were staring at me and I was like, "Hi, I'm just here to fax something."
It was awkward.
Oh and yeah, I just got to know I'm a tsundere type.
tsundere suits you better than porcupine kot..
